The purpose of this use case is to explore 5G as so-called contribution network as an alternative to a complementary network solution to current specialised contribution networks used for broadcasting productions. The proliferation of the catalyst nature of 5G networks in significantly advancing the state-of-the-art by supporting the very high-density uplink transmissions from the same location and avoiding congestion will disrupt the media and entertainment sector on a level no one could have previously imagined. It will enable many in the industry, especially those producing live event coverage, to rethink their approach, spurring an incredible drive towards innovation. This use case focuses on the remote production and transmission of high-quality audio-visual content, focusing on the higher uplink capacities of 5G for edge-based and remote content production services, separated into two scenarios:

  1. High-quality User Generated Content (UGC) production services: support the very high-density uplink transmissions from the same location, avoiding congestion and supporting NetApps workflows for such contents
  2. Professional live production: significantly higher uplink capacities that will facilitate disruptive remote production pipelines. Thus, field production will not be able to rely on something other than Broadcasting (OB) vans with on-site production teams, as UHD camera streams can be transmitted at the remote studio in real-time.
