SaT5G: 5G services in homes and offices in rural areas via satellite connectivity

Home » SaT5G: 5G services in homes and offices in rural areas via satellite connectivity

This SaT5G demonstration is about connectivity complementing terrestrial networks, such as broadband connectivity to home/office in underserved areas in combination with poor terrestrial wireless or wireline access technology. The demonstration addresses the need for remote area covrerage through digital divide resorption.

In terms of 5G functionalities, SaT5G investigates:

  • Dual connectivity (satellite and cellular/xDSL access) for self-backhaul.
  • Support of Network slicing, SDN/NFV, Edge computing, Network Management and orchestration.
  • Traffic steering between unicast and multicast resources. Demo to a domestic terminal with fixed and dynamic prefetching in the cache.
